A Face, A Name, A Brand. The Murph’s Hot & Spicy Famous Bloody Mary Mix.
Just last week, I had my very first newspaper interview. I was nervous because (1) I didn’t know what to expect, (2) I didn’t know what to say, and (3) I didn’t have a clear vision of exactly what I wanted out of the interview. I mean, how do you explain your entire life story in a 45 minute interview outside a Starbucks? But after the interview, I felt even more apprehensive. What would the reporter say? How would she say it? Would I be exposed as the self-absorbed, potty-mouthed lush that I really am? And why was that weird guy sitting across from me listening to and laughing at every word of my interview? I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. But this entire experience reminded me of a very cool guy named The Murph. You see, while I was struggling to figure out my own personal narrative, The Murph had already taken his persona to a whole other branding level. With his face prominently displayed on the bottle and a slew of hilarious bloody mary inspired videos, there’s no question that this guy loves his bloody marys. Last summer, I reviewed The Murph’s Famous Bloody Mary Mix, but now, a new “Hot & Spicy” version is on the market.
The Hot & Spicy mix stays true to the original Murph’s Famous with a robust, savory and peppery flavor that is heavy on Worcestershire. But where the original had only hints of horseradish and a little bit of heat, the Hot & Spicy version kicks it up a notch. The thick tomato base gets an added dose of cayenne pepper sauce that brightens the mix and provides a long, slow burn. Lots of big black pepper chunks and a moderate amount horseradish also add to the spice complexity. So while the original mix moved across your palate like a smooth, steady wave, the Hot & Spicy mix slaps your taste buds silly with flavor. And that’s just how I like it.
The Murph’s Hot & Spicy Famous Bloody Mary Mix earns 4.5 Celery Stalks.
Price: $6.99. Available at stores in the New York/New Jersey area or online.
